At our discretion, as supported by the NJAC Class F regulations, Surfside Structured Sober Living enacted rules surrounding participation in 12-Step recovery (supported by research) and regular participation in physical activities (supported by research) that are related to maintaining sobriety and continuing recovery (as supported by significant peer-reviewed research, available online).
Our website clearly states that we do not provide on-site counseling, therapy, clinical treatment, or alcohol/drug treatment.
Our homes are staffed by peer support staff who provide non-clinical recovery support, as is our right under the N.J.A.C. 5.27 Class F Sober Living Residence Regulations (#6). At our discretion, as supported by the NJAC Class F regulations, we encourage residents to utilize off-site services to maintain sobriety. This may include Case Management and Social Activities through Surfside - Addiction, LLC. For transparency, the President of the Board of Directors of Surfside Recovery Services, INC is the Founder/CEO of Surfside - Addiction, LLC.
We do not hide this relationship, although they are completely separate entities with separate Tax ID.

Definition of a Cooperative Sober Living Residence:
"Cooperative Sober Living Residences" means a residential setting that serves solely as a home for individuals who are recovering from drug or alcohol addiction and is intended to provide an environment where residents can support each other’s sobriety and recovery… a cooperative sober living residences shall satisfy the following criteria:
1. Management by an entity or organization that provides an operator who shall reside in the residence and exercise some level of control over the operation of the residence and establishes the residence's rules;
2. Occupancy shall not exceed 10 individuals, exclusive of the operator;
3. The requirement of the maintenance of an alcohol and drug free environment;
4. No provision of on-site counseling, therapy, clinical treatment or alcohol/drug treatment by the licensee;
5. No provision of food, laundry, financial or other personal services by the licensee;
6. Availability of licensee, at its discretion, to provide non-clinical recovery and support services. The licensee may also elect to mandate or encourage residents to attend self-help recovery programs, participate in activities related to maintaining sobriety and continuing recovery, or receive off-site services deemed desirable or necessary to maintain sobriety;
7. Ability of licensee, at its discretion, to require alcohol or drug testing of residents.
